January Newsletter 2012

Dive and Sea Tenerife 5 Star Instructor Development Centre

Happy New Year to you all.

Happy New Year From Dive and Sea Tenerife

We all hope that you had a wonder Christmas and fantastic New Years celebrations and like us are all raring to go for the New Year.

We would like to say a big thank you for your continued support of us and our dive centre, it has been a pleasure this year to welcome back more familiar faces as well as a joy to meet so many new and interesting people throughout the year.

A big thank you to all our Divemaster Interns this year who have supported all of us customers included with all their hard work determination and enthusiasm.

December was a great month for us here at Dive and Sea Tenerife it was great to meet so many divers on their first ever diving experiences, as well as welcoming back lots of familiar faces for continued education and or  recreational diving.

We were so lucky that every single week we had sighting of Dolphins from the boat and shore now who can fail to be cheered by such a sight first thing in the morning.  December was unseasonably warm and sunny much to our delight and we hope that the New Year continues on this theme.

Team update

We had our Santa dive to the delight of all the interns.  It was so much fun diving in our Santa suits and Melissa even had on Reindeer ears which she was pleased to find still there at the end of her dive!  The people in the Marina looked on with amusement as we left waving singing Feliz Navidad!!

Dive and Sea Tenerife Christmas Santa Dive

Alice has been happy to start teaching her first courses and prior to going away for her Christmas holidays to work as one of Santa’s Elves she taught 2 Open Water Courses, 3 Advanced Course, a Wreck diver speciality and a Nitrox Speciality.  So she’s looking forward to the new year for more teaching opportunities.

Pete was delighted to finally get his Dry Suit, no more cold mornings for him as he has enjoyed gloating over the last few weeks.

Divemaster Internship Updates

Well done to Dennis, Andreas and Mahmoud for passing their Divemaster Courses.  We all wish you the best for your future careers and hope to see you back in Tenerife soon.  We said a fond farewell to Lydia who stayed with us for 13 weeks continuing her studies and promises she will be back!

Dive Site Review

Tabaiba

Dive and Sea Tenerife Shore Diving at Tabaiba

A fantastic shore dive site located in the north of the island approximately a 45 minute drive away from the dive centre, for Advanced divers and above.

To enter the water you can either climb down the ladder or depth permitting Giant Stride into the water, you follow along the pipeline until suddenly looming in the distance you see El Raton the Wreck.  This wreck was deliberately sunk   The Wreck is situated at approximately 30 meters and for those with a Wreck diving speciality it is possible to enter the wreck.

Around the wreck is an abundance of aquatic life its great to see the wreck developing year on year with new life appearing such as Anemones, Red Back Cleaner shrimp and even a small statue of a dog!

This is a great dive site for those considering doing the Advanced Open Water Diver course or Wreck Diving Speciality.

Dive Equipment

Momentum Dive Watch M1

Dive and Sea Tenerife Scuba Diving Equipment Essentials

Momentum M1 Ladies Divers Watch - Rubber Strap a superb dive watch from Momentum. The soft rubber composite strap ensures day long comfort and flex with your natural wrist movement. The strap is also long enough to fit around most dive suits.

The Momentum M1 watch is perhaps the most popular watch within the Momentum range combining practical elements with great functionality and quality manufacturing.

Depth Rated: Max depth 200metre - screw-lock crown. The Momentum M1 watch is engineered for diving or regular in-water use.

The Momentum M1 dive watch is available with either Nylon/Webbing strap or Rubber strap in both Mens and Ladies design.

This Dive watch is nice and light weight and very comfortable to wear the best thing is that it has such a nice slim design that it’s a great everyday watch as well as a dive watch.  Its also available in a range of colours of course Melissa had to have pink but there are less girly options available.

Divemaster Internship

Dive and Sea Tenerife Divemaster Internship Program

If you would like more information about our Divemaster Internships please email melissa@diveandseatenerife.com

You can do the PADI Divemaster internship in as little as 8 week's or increase this, depending on the time and finances you have available, up to 12 week's for additional experience.

We provide all the training for FREE, however there are costs involved with regards PADI materials, diving insurance, accommodation & equipment.  Please see page. We accept all levels of certification and non-divers who want a new challenge are more than welcome.

All diving is FREE for the whole duration you are with us, some of our interns manage over 100 dives! Each intern gets a minimum of 60 dives.

On staff we have a PADI Master Instructor, PADI Assistant Instructor and PADI Divemaster, who are all there to ensure your Divemaster Internship runs smoothly, and that you make the best of all of the opportunities that are presented to you.

Pete is a PADI Master Instructor and is one of the owners of the dive centre.  Since Pete became an Instructor he has quickly progressed through the PADI rankings of Master Scuba Diver Trainer, Staff Instructor and is now a Master Instructor. Pete has attained 14 different Specialities that he is able to teach and has a fantastic knowledge of the diving world and diving theory.  He will over see your entire internship and complete all of your PADI Courses.

Alice our PADI Instructor who joined us as a non-certified diver and stayed as an intern for 13 weeks. Upon completion of her Divemaster internship with us see went to work in Gran Canaria. She returned to work with us in June 2012 and has now trained to become a PADI Instructor.  Alice is there as a mentor to the Divemaster Interns, don’t forget she has been through the same process that you will be going through and so she is a font of information not only on diving but also on the internship.

Melissa is a very experienced Divemaster and is also the other owner of the Dive centre.  Melissa is responsible for all of the administrative side of your internship, so any paperwork queries look no further.  Melissa has a wealth of knowledge about diving and is happy to answer any questions you might have.  She is also responsible for all of our shore diving and will take you out for fun recreational dives during your internship.

Our PADI Dive centre has trained more PADI Divemaster’s than any other centre in the area and the majority have gone on to use the qualification for employment in some form or for continuing their education.

We run the internships all year round, however in the summer places are very limited due to our popularity.

Not PADI certified, don't worry, as there are crossovers for all levels of BSAC, SSAC, CMAS, FEDAS, SSI, NAUI, SAA, SCOT SAC etc, so just let us know what agency and what level you are and we will tell you the next PADI level required.

So what will you actually be doing on your internship?

Here at Dive and sea Tenerife we try and make your internship as similar to the role of a working Divemaster as possible.  That means that each day is hard work but also good fun.

A typical day for a Divemaster Intern, is to arrive at the Dive Centre in the morning and begin by preparing the equipment for the days diving
This may consist of equipment for the pool, or for boat, or shore diving or all 3.  The vehicles are then loaded and the customers arrive.

A strong focus is placed on good communication skills with customers who are with us at the Dive Centre, and ensuring that everyone who enters the Dive Centre or dives with us has first class experience.

Everyone heads off to do their role for the day, be this taking part in a PADI scuba diving course, assisting an Instructor / Assistant Instructor or Divemaster in the swimming pool or ocean, buddying up with a customer or on Boat Cover duty.  All of these roles are equally as important and all interns will take each role during their internship

December Newsletter 2012

Dive and Sea Tenerife 5 Star PADI Instructor Development Centre

November was a great month here at dive and Sea Tenerife.   It was really great to welcome back some regular customers, who were pleased to try the new dives sites Las Eras and El Delfin.

The first Instructor Development course was run in conjunction with Dive Tenerife.  This all ran really smoothly and we are looking forward to the next IDC in February.

Remember you can check out Melissa weekly blog for an update on what we have been doing here at dive and Sea.

Team Update

Congratulations to Alice for passing her Instructor Development Course.  We are all really proud of how far Alice has come this year.

Dive and Sea Tenerife Instructor Development Course

As you will all remember Alice joined us in January for her Divemaster Internship as an uncertified diver, she stayed with us for 13 weeks training and returned to work here with us at Dive and Sea in June.  Alice has worked as a mentor to the Interns and then progressed to her Assistant Instructor course in August.

Now finally she has been able to complete her Instructor Development Course, and also obtain instructor Specialities.

We are all looking forward to Alice being able to teach courses and continue her diving education.

Joining Alice on her IDC was Lorcan, who did incredibly well on his Instructor course. Unlike Alice Lorcan had almost no preparation time for his IDC due to work commitments.  Hard work and lots of study proved to us all that he will make an excellent Instructor. Congratulations we look forward to seeing you soon.

We have a new website specifically devoted to the professional diving courses that we have to offer here at Dive and Sea Tenerife please see   http://www.scubadivinginstructor-idc.com/

Divemaster Updates

A huge Congratulations to Sam for passing his Divemaster Internship, Mr “Mary Poppins” Practically perfect in every way has worked really hard not just on his theory to achieve high scores on his Divemaster Exams but also on his stamina.  Sam was able to lead a variety of dives which he thoroughly enjoyed as well as acting as a divemaster Mentor to the new Interns.

Dive and Sea Tenerife PADI Divemaster Internship

We were all sad to see Sam leave earlier last month.  We would all like to wish Sam well for his future career and really hope that we will see him back again next year to complete his Assistant Instructor Course.

Well done to Lydia who passed her Divemaster Course at the end of the month.  Now all Lydia has to work on is more study for her Additional specialities she would like to complete as well as her DSD leader.  Lydia will stay on with us here at Dive and Sea until the end of December before returning home to spend New Year with her family.

Dive and Sea Tenerife PADI Divemaster Internship

Poco Naufragio

The Joys of the Rays.

Dive and Sea Tenerife PADI Advanced Open Water Scuba Diving

We are really lucky to have access to this wonderful site where on a daily basis you are likely to see Rays.  Over the last few months the Rays have slowly begun to return. However if you are not lucky enough o see a Ray whilst you are on this dive you will not be disappointed there are Moray Eels, Ocotpus, Cuttlefish, Cleaner Shrimp Anemones and much more to see.

This site has two levels, the first levels the shelf sits between 14 and 18 meters and so is a suitable dive for Open Water dives,  for the more advanced diver you can move off the shelf to see the small wreck of a rowing boat which attracts an abundance of life.

This site is wonderful and never ceases to amaze me at how wonderful the dives are.

It has been really great to welcome Geoffrey, Todd, Jess and Susanne into the dive centre.

PADI Divemaster Internship Tenerife

Geoffrey friend of Gareth came to join us at Dive and Sea Tenerife for his 8 week internship as a none certified diver.  Infact at the beginning of the year he could not even swim.  However lucky for us Geoffrey took to diving like a duck to water.  He has loved every moment he has been able to spend under water.  So far Geoffrey has accomplished not only his Discover Scuba diving certification, but also his open Water diver and Advanced Open Water diver.  Geoffrey has also chosen to take the Master Scuba Diver whilst he is here so lots of reading and lots of hard work ahead for Geoffrey.

Todd and Jess (boyfriend and girlfriend) both joined us as Advanced Open Water divers, Todd has been a diver for several years but Jess started earlier in the year and they have both dived on their travels over the last few months.  So far Todd and Jess have completed their Rescue Diver course and have moved on to study for the all important Divemaster exams.

Susanne has joined us for the first half of her Internship, Susanne is lucky to have been allowed 4 whole weeks off from her job in Juvenile detention in Belgium where she is an art therapist and has joined the gang as a Rescue Diver.  Susanne brings her own brand of humour, which has delighted us all, and within her first few days we felt that she had been here forever.  Susanne has also chosen to complete her master scuba diver certification whilst she is here.

We have also had the joy of Gareth returning.  Gareth joined us last year for our divemaster internship and this year has returned to study for his IDC, he spent the first 3 weeks studying, practising skills for his IDC and now Congratulations to him he passed and is now an Open Water Scuba Instructor.  Gareth will spend all next month here with the team gaining experience in teaching courses.

This Long sleeved fleece lined wind proof rash vest is a fantastic way to keep warm as the winter months draw in and the water temperature drops.  The best advantage that I can see is that when you are out of the water the wind cannot get to your skin so you keep warmer for longer.

Also available in this range are short sleeved Rash Vests, Hooded rash Vests, Leggings and Socks.  These are all available for men and women.

Yellow Mountain

Dive and Sea Tenerife Diving at Yellow Mountain

As I rarely dive this site, it was a nice surprise to go out on the boat and get into the water.

It has been almost a year since I dived here, and it was a real pleasure to note the changes at the swim through and Crocodile rock.

Within the swim through there is now more colourful soft corals growing definitely worth taking a torch to get a better luck.

On my recent dive I was pleased to see a large Octopus, and a dusky grouper, as well as a large Fangtooth moray.  There also seemed to be larger numbers of Bream and Damels than on previous visits.

This is a great site to dive for all levels as there is always so much to see and on each visit you always find something new to see.
