August Tenerife Diving Newsletter 2012

PADI Instructor Centre

Hello all,

Hopefully you are all enjoying reading this year’s newsletters.  August was a busy busy month.
With interns arriving and finishing as well as lots of happy smiley customers visiting our 5 Star Dive Centre  we have had a non stop month both boat and shore diving daily.

Divemaster Internship Update

We said a sad farewell to Jake, Will and Jamie this month.  They all did really well.
Jake fast became an invaluable member of the team and will be sadly missed.

Will and Jamie did excellently on their PADI Assistant Instructor course all finished in the nick of time for them to head off back to Scotland.
Thank you all for an unforgettable 8 weeks!!

PADI Divemaster

It has been really great to welcome Geoffrey, Todd, Jess and Susanne into our Dive Centre.

PADI Divemaster Internship

Geoffrey, a friend of Gareth, came to join us at Dive and Sea Tenerife for his 8 week internship as a non certified diver.  In fact at the beginning of the year he could not even swim!

However lucky for us Geoffrey took to diving like a duck to water.  He has loved every moment he has been able to spend under water.
So far Geoffrey has accomplished not only his PADI Discover Scuba Diving certification, but also his PADI Open Water diver and PADI Advanced Open Water diver.

Geoffrey has also chosen to take the PADI Master Scuba Diver whilst he is here so lots of reading and lots of hard work ahead for Geoffrey.

PADI DSD

Todd and Jess (boyfriend and girlfriend) both joined us as PADI Advanced Open Water divers.
Todd has been a diver for several years but Jess started earlier in the year and they have both dived on their travels over the last few months.

So far Todd and Jess have completed their PADI Rescue Diver course and have moved on to study for the all important Divemaster exams.

Susanne has joined us for the first half of her Internship, Susanne is lucky to have been allowed 4 whole weeks off from her job in Juvenile detention in Belgium where she is an art therapist and has joined the gang as a PADI Rescue Diver.  Susanne brings her own brand of humour, which has delighted us all, and within her first few days we felt that she had been here forever.
Susanne has also chosen to complete her PADI Master Scuba Diver certification whilst she is here.

PADI Divemaster Internship Tenerife

We have also had the joy of Gareth returning.  Gareth joined us last year for our PADI Divemaster internship and this year has returned to study for his IDC, he spent the first 3 weeks studying, practicing skills for his IDC.
PADI Instructor course
Congratulations are now due to him he passed and is now a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor.  Gareth will spend all next month here with the team gaining experience in teaching courses.

Alex and Foster are progressing well, and have both now become PADI Divemasters.
Alex has started work on her Discover Scuba Diving leader Internship and is doing really well.

Equipment Review

Lavacore Long Sleeved rash Vest (69 Euros)
This Long sleeved fleece lined wind proof rash vest is a fantastic way to keep warm as the winter months draw in and the water temperature drops.  The best advantage that I can see is that when you are out of the water the wind cannot get to your skin so you keep warmer for longer.

Also available in this range are short sleeved Rash Vests, Hooded rash Vests, Leggings and Socks.  These are all available for men and women.

Yellow Mountain
As I rarely dive this site, it was a nice surprise to go out on the boat and get into the water.

It has been almost a year since I dived here, and it was a real pleasure to note the changes at the swim through and Crocodile rock.
Brown Moray Eel Tenerife

Within the swim through there is now more colourful soft corals growing definitely worth taking a torch to get a better luck.

On my recent dive I was pleased to see a large Octopus, and a dusky grouper, as well as a large Fangtooth moray.  There also seemed to be larger numbers of Bream and Damels than on previous visits.
Cuttle fish Tenerife

This is a great site to dive for all levels as there is always so much to see and on each visit you always find something new to see.
